Blessed are the Peacemakers

Matthew 5:9 - Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Notice that Jesus doesn’t say blessed are the peace lovers. Everyone loves peace. There’s nothing special about being a peace lover. But you are blessed if you are a peacemaker because peacemaking is hard.

A peacemaker is a person who’s willing to confront people and hold people accountable. God needs peacemakers in His church – people who will stop gossipers and complainers.

A peacemaker is a person who is willing to admit that they were wrong.  It’s a person who is willing to give up their right to be right for the sake of a relationship. Jesus was the ultimate peacemaker. He gave up His rights for the sake of our relationship with Him.

So here’s the question: Are you a peace lover or a peace maker?

  1. I think most people believe that peace is the absence of trouble. After reading the above I would have to say that I'm a peacemaker.
So peace involves confrontation and accountability which can often go hand in hand with Conflict. But conflict seems like the polar opposite of peace. I think this is where my struggle can come in.
How do you confront and require accountability knowing there's going to be conflict ,which can also include combative reactions , which feels like a mess ..which feels like the absence of peace?
